INTENSIVE SUMMER LANGUAGE INSTITUTE MAY - JUNE 2011
GENERAL INFORMATION
The Department of Romance Languages at Wake Forest offers a five-week Italian course in Italy. Participants reside at Casa Artom on the Grad Canal in Venice, where they will share rooms with other students. This luxurious house has a laundry facility and a large kitchen where students can prepare their own meals. Casa Artom is conveniently located, close to the Accademia Bridge, the Guggenheim Museum, churches, restaurants, coffeehouses ad small grocery stores. Every weekend the class goes on a field trip to cities like Verona, Padua, Florence and others, visiting museums, sites of cultural interest, and doing other cultural activities. Other activities are done in Venice, including a cooking lesson and a night at the opera. A deposit is due by the end of February 2011. Students should apply for a passport immediately. Students withdrawing after these date will receive refunds according to Wake Forest policy.
TRIPS AND EXCURSIONS
Excursions to Verona, Padua, Florence and other cities are included in the program cost. In addition to these, organized daily group outings will introduce students to culture and serve as practice of what has been studied: parmesan farm, balsamic vinegar farm in Emilia Romagna, Prosecco wine vineyard in the Veneto region.
SCHOLARSHIP
Scholarships are available through the Center for International Studies, located in Reynolda Hall. The most common is a $1000 grant for students with a B average or better. Contact the Center for details regarding the application process and deadlines. Students are encouraged to seek a variety of funding resources.

INS101. La Dolce Vita: A Stroll through the Art, Culture and Food of Mediterranean Italy. (1.5h) This course offers an insight into the culture of the regions of Italy and their cuisine, with a particular focus on social, artistic and environmental aspects of life in contemporary Venice.. The class includes site visits, guest lectures, interviews with Venetians, and a weekly cooking practice.
PROGRAM COST
In summer 2009 the cost for this program was $6,600. It included tuition (for 6 credit hours); lodging in Venice; administrative fees; all field trips and excursions included in the program; the cost of one group dinner at Casa Artom; museum visits; transportation and day visits to Murano, Burano, Torcello, Verona, and Padua; the laundry facility in Venice. The cost does not include airfare to and from Italy; individual transportation from and to the airport; US fees for passports; course materials; meals other than the above specified; personal expenses.
At the end of the stay at casa Artom, students are given the option to follow their instructors to Florence for three more days. This is not included in the tuition.
